Instagram re-compresses anything you upload, and it crops without asking when the aspect ratio does not match one of its supported shapes. That is why faces get cut off at the top of a story or the bottom of a portrait post. Resizing before uploading puts that decision back in your hands.

The presets here cover the sizes that matter: 1080 × 1350 for portrait feed posts, which occupy the most screen space in the feed; 1080 × 1080 for classic square posts and grid consistency; and 1080 × 1920 for stories and reels, which is the full vertical screen. The reel cover uses the same 1080 × 1350 frame Instagram shows on your profile grid.

Crop mode scales your image until it fills the frame and trims the overflow evenly from the centre, which is what you want for photos. Fit mode scales the image down until the whole thing is visible and fills the remaining space with white, which is better for screenshots, text graphics and product shots where cropping would destroy information.

Output is JPEG at high quality, which keeps the file small enough that Instagram's own compression does less visible damage. Work from the largest original you have rather than a screenshot of a screenshot — resizing cannot recover detail that was already lost.

Everything runs on an HTML canvas inside your browser. No image is uploaded, stored or sent to any server, so you can safely resize client work, personal photos and unreleased content offline.
